Things To Do Nearby

The rolling green hills and fields of the Chilterns, which are on The Red Lion’s doorstep, are rated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and cover 324 square miles of stunning countryside.

The area stretches from the River Thames in southern Oxfordshire up through Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire to Hertfordshire, and offers miles of walking paths to tread, events and tours run by local guides to enjoy, and villages to be explored along the way.

Coombe Hill is the highest viewpoint in the Chilterns. It once belonged to the Chequers Estate but was given to the National Trust in 1918. Coombe Hill is also home to Chequers House, a retreat for the serving prime minister of the UK.

Closer to home, Go Ape, based a five-minute drive from The Red Lion at Wendover Woods, offers fun for all ages, with climbing adventures at different heights depending on age, capability, and how brave you’re feeling! Although a little further from The Red Lion, Meades Water Garden is also worth a mention, because it's a peaceful spot suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

A four-minute walk from the hotel brings you to Aces High Aviation Gallery, which specialises in Aviation and Military fine art. For a fun afternoon, head to Don't Get Locked In, an escape room that challenges teams to work together to overcome a set of obstacles in just 60 minutes to escape. If you turn up alone, don’t worry – you'll be paired up with other groups.

Nearby Aylesbury is also home to the Bucks County Museum and Roald Dahl’s Children’s Gallery, neither of which are to be missed if you’re visiting the area.
