A traditional 16th-century coaching inn, The Red Lion’s walls could tell their fair share of stories from down the centuries. Rumour has it that Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, Oliver Cromwell, stayed at The Red Lion in Wendover during his rule in the 1600s, and addressed his troops from one of the pub’s windows.
More recently, we made history when our barmaid, Dolly, turned 100 years old. Dolly worked with us for 75 years, from before World War II until her death in 2015, and was thought to be the world’s oldest barmaid. Regular drinkers at The Red Lion often raise a glass to Dolly.
